“I’ll walk where my own nature nature leads.” Emily Bronte
My paintings are expressive works of contemporary art that are constantly evolving. I paint with a combination of vivid colors, line and design that constantly challenges me by the emotions I feel when painting. Color has been the focus of my paintings for the last ten years and my subject matters are inspired by nature and the sense of humor that life has to offer. I want to convey to my viewers that commonplace subjects can be viewed in uncommon ways.
Sally has a BFA in Graphic Design and Fine Art from the University of South Carolina and was beginning her career as a graphic artist when she realized something, she was bored. However, a vacation to the deserts of the Southwestern United States changed everything. During her trip, she was introduced to artists from the area whose dramatic use of color stirred her soul.
That was when Sally realized her lifetime goal was to become a fulltime painter. She’s been following that dream ever since. Expressive use of color and bold designs are the hallmarks of Sally’s style. Though she started with watercolors, she now enjoys pastels, acrylics and mixed media.
Her subject matter ranges from the beaches of Florida to the deserts of New Mexico and Arizona. She finds the palette of the deserts a refreshing change from her native South. In addition to her landscapes Sally loves animals and creates whimsical works inspired by dogs, cats, horses and any other creature that catches her fancy.
Sally received two of the top five awards in the International Society of Acrylic Painters Juried Exhibitions in 2005 and 2007. Her paintings “Donkey Drool” and “What’s Up?” were awarded the prestigious M. Graham & Company Merchandise Award. Her painting “Southwestern Moon” was exhibited at the prestigious Salmagundi Club with the Pastel Society of America juried exhibition 2008 in New York, New York.
Sally’s paintings have been exhibited international juried shows, galleries and museums, all over the United States and her work is collected by a varied group of corporations including Tampa Bay Magazine, US Airways Club at the Tampa International Airport, The St. Joe Company, Coca Cola Corporation, Chili’s Corporation, and Walker and Company Inc. Winter Park, Florida. Recent exhibitions include New York City, NY., Martha’s Vineyard, MA., Charleston, SC and Winter Park, Fl.
Currently US Airways features her paintings in the US Airways Club at Tampa International Airport. Her paintings were also on display in the American Embassy in Rome, through the Art and Embassies Program in 2001. Sally’s work has been selected as the featured art for several art festivals in Florida over the past ten years. “Santa Fe Poppies” graced the cover of Tampa Bay Magazine in their September-October of 2002 issue. In Spring 2011 Sally was the featured artist of The New Barker magazine with her painting of “Bella and Bentley”.
Her lithographs have appeared in television shows such as Nip/Tuck and the movie American Dreamz.
